The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California is gearing up for its first annual Sickle Cell Awareness Walk…“Choose to Know.” We encourage our community members and families
to support this cause and to learn more about the sickle cell disease and the work we do.
The walk will take place Saturday, August 28, 2010. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.; all activities will be at Darby Park in the city of Inglewood.
Events for the day include:
• Warm up and exercise activities
• Tiny Feet Trail – 1/3 mile run/walk for children between the ages of one and eight years old
• Individual and Team Mile – Three laps around the track
• Children’s Corner for fun and games
• Unveil Sickle Cell Kick Off Rally (10:00 am – 12:30 pm) – Live music provided by the Matthew Jamele Trio
Each walker must complete the attached registration, pledge form, and solicit donations from as many sponsors as possible (Hint: Hit up family and friends.) There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards given to the walkers or teams who raise the most money. There is no registration fee to walk but each individual walker is asked to donate a minimum of $20.00.
All proceeds will benefit the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California (www.scdfc.org) and the activities/programs managed by SCDFC. Participants are asked to arrive at 9:00 a.m. for registration.
